Boyfriend and I decided to have an adventure day on Sunday. We wanted to get out and do something different instead of just sitting around in Denver and after talking things through and wanting to take a somewhat lazy day and make it fun, decided to go to Boulder. We haven’t been there in awhile and it was a gorgeous day so why not visit the hippie town and have an urban adventure of sorts?

Clik here to view.We started at my favorite Boulder restaurant, Mountain Sun. I haven’t been there since the Blend Retreat last year, where I had one of the best burgers ever so I was excited about the trip! He had never been before and I love that they have a sweet mix of healthy and bad-for-you foods so you can go either route depending on your mood and attitude. Since I’m still trying to win the Diet Bet I went the healthier route and ordered the special of the day the Sunday Savory wrap with baked tempeh, arugula, walnuts, cole slaw, onions and tomato with a side salad with ahhh—champagne vinaigrette??? I’ve never heard of such thing and when our server mentioned that automatically dropped my balsamic vinaigrette for the champagne and it was delightful! Super tart and light, it was the perfect topping for a side salad.

I don’t know what it is about this place and it’s sister restaurant, Vine Street Pub, that makes me go coo-koo for tempeh but these hippies know what they’re doing! I’ve only tried making tempeh once and it was an absolute fail but these restaurants have instilled a sense of hope in me that maybe I can be a master of the tempeh one day. We shall see…..

Clik here to view. After lunch, we walked around Pearl Street, checked out Kid Robot, stopped at Starbucks before meeting up with Lauren and Greg. Since we were in Boulder we felt it was only appropriate to go to a brewery since there’s a plethora of them and not much is better in life than sitting outside enjoying a beer on a Sunday afternoon. Am I right or am I right?
First stop was J. Wells Brewery, a newer brewery in Boulder located in a business park building that looked like it should be an auto repair shop. It’s very bare bones and minimal-you have the beer, board games, peanut and chairs and tables. There was one guy worked, the J Wells I presume, and he was nice enough but really not informative at all about the beers (i.e. he didn’t tell us anything except he had been there since January) and wasn’t too chatty. There was a board with the five beers they offer and that’s all the info we got so hooray for social awkwardness! We got tasters which range from $1.50-$2 of all the beers and went from there. Like I said before, they were decent but nothing sticks out about them except the Junior Haze IPA which was super hoppy and delicious. We sat up and caught up on things since I haven’t seen Lauren since the Blend Retreat back in May of this year (notice there is no recap) and texting/emailing/Facebooking isn’t enough sometimes.

One brewery isn’t enough so we headed to Twisted Pine Brewery shortly after. They have all the beers on the wall right by the bar so it’s easy to pick out some to try (you can get tasters in orders of 5, 10 or 15) and I was impressed by all their beers! The seasonal Shantastic was hands down my favorite because it’s one of those beers you can drink all day long and be tricked into thinking it’s non-alcoholic since it’s so light and tangy (dangerous!) I’m not a fan of bloody mary’s but started to fall in love with the Bloody Billy’s due to it’s spice and being my favorite color-red. Places like this make me sad that Boulder is so far away but I guess on the flip side it;s a positive because I would just be sitting around drinking beer all day!

Good food, friends, beer and my boo, even though it was a mild day in the sense of the word adventure, it was just about a perfect day!
